There were many reasons as to why The USSR wanted to join the war. The biggest had to of been the fact that they would earn the land that was lost during WW1 and then some. but the main reason as to why had to be Hitler’s plans for Russia during WW1, at least that’s what is taught. “Poland’s borders would be changed. Poland would be given land in the West, taken from Germany and lose land to the USSR.” (page 1) See the British and French were planning on turning certain places in Europe that were controlled by the USSR to be given control of their home area by practically taking it out of Russia’s hands. There were also many disagreements, more than what is stated above like… “There was disagreement over Poland. The British wanted Stalin to hold free elections but he simply refused, stating that the British were not willing to allow a communist government in Greece.” (page 2) it is clear now, the reason Stalin wanted to be in the war was to be able to get what he wanted for his country. It’s quite possible that Stalin didn’t even care about the lost territory after WW1. What if for Stalin WW2 was just a hostage situation, with Poland as the hostage, for his own government. He probably knew what the US, Britain, and France would do for Europe after Germany’s rule during WW2, and he also knew that what Hitler was going to do would close a road he had for Russia. To address those who are thinking how would Stalin know about all of this if he wasn’t an allie of Germany? Well, that answer is quite simple, actually its only two words, Mein Kampf.

There are hundreds of reasons as to why Russia wanted to join the war. In the last paragraph I talked about the reason Russia wanted to join the Axis forces. This response of what I found in this website talks a lot about why they ended up joining the British and French to destroy the Germans. “The German attack on the Soviet Union was to have an immediate and highly salutary effect on Great Britain’s situation.” (Page 2) The biggest one had to of been the fact that Hitler attacked the USSR. After the attack on the Russians by Germany and completely violating their peace agreement, that agreement ended and Germany will regret it. “The Soviet Union had twice or perhaps three times the number of both tanks and aircraft as the Germans had, but their aircraft were mostly obsolete.” (Page 1) The russians had ample amounts of war materials since they entered the war shortly after their industrialization. They had things that were far more powerful than Germany had and Japan. Although they lost 1,800 miles of land to the Germans, they quickly hit back harder with all the tanks they had wiping out Germany’s front in Minsk.
