Most people remember the start of a relation between Japan and Germany to be World War 2, mainly because Japan and Germany were both in the Axis powers. That’s not true at all. “German–Japanese relations were established in 1860 with the first ambassadorial visit to Japan from Prussia (which predated the formation of the German Empire in 1871).” (Page 1) After the Meiji Restoration of 1867, Japan began to modernize rapidly. They used German models through intense intellectual and cultural exchange. This between the two did not last forever because in 1914 Japan declared war on Germany and seized key German possessions in China and the Pacific. Now let’s jump to the 1930’s where “both countries adopted aggressive militaristic attitudes toward their respective regions.”(Page 1) This ultimately led to a political and military alliance that included Italy, The Axis Powers, during the Second World War. However The Axis powers were very limited because of their great distances between each country also on top that each country that was apart of the Axis powers were fighting their own separate wars, and eventually surrendered separately. “After the Second World War, the economies of both nations experienced rapid recoveries; bilateral relations, now focused on economic issues, were soon re-established.” (Page 1) Even after a loss after the Second World War the two countries stuck together to help each other. After reading this website and writing about it, I have learned that the reason for Hitler working with the Japanese was simply because of two things their history together and their same looks of the future world.

During World War 2 Germany was planning to create the ultimate race, Aryan. At the same time Japan was wanting a superior race as well, so why did the two join the Axis powers together? Well it turns out that all three countries in the Axis powers, Italy, Germany, and Japan, were fighting their own wars as I had said in the last paragraph, so they did not have conflict between each other, unless it was the Soviet Union. ” Axis partners had two common interests: 1) territorial expansion and foundation of empires based on military conquest and the overthrow of the post-World War I international order; and 2) the destruction or neutralization of Soviet Communism.” (Page 1) The reason the Axis powers were so successful was because they were all striving towards the same ideas, the only difference being what those specific things were to have. Now how could the Axis powers get stronger towards their victory of a master race? Well like every successful business ever you have to build it up.
The belligerents during World War II fought as partners in one of two major alliances: the Axis and the Allies. The three principal partners in the Axis alliance were Germany, Italy, and Japan. These three countries recognized German hegemony over most of continental Europe; Italian hegemony over the Mediterranean Sea; and Japanese hegemony over East Asia and the Pacific.
